What can we eat? Where do we shop? What can I possibly serve for meals or eat for snacks? These are very typical questions that we all seem to struggle with, regardless of how long we've been dealing with a corn allergy or intolerance. This list of safe foods is always being modified as ingredients change or I find something new that doesn't contain corn or its derivatives.
Here are some favorites that I have never reacted to*:
- Adirondack Sparkling Water
- Annie's macaroni and cheese
- Barry's Bakery French Twists
- Canned fruit in lite juice
- Erewhon Oatmeal
- Erewhon Raisin Bran
- Haagen-Dazs chocolate, strawberry and coffee ice cream
- Horizon Organic dairy products
- Kettle Chips (plain)
- LaChoy Chow Mein Noodles
- Lundberg rice cakes
- Newman's Own Sweet Dark Orange Dark Chocolate bar
- Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers
- Rapunzal chocolate bars
- Real Torino Breadsticks
- Stacy's Pita Chips
- Stone wheat crackers
- Stop & Shop butter
- Utz potato chips (plain)
Organic foods are a great place to start finding safe items. HOWEVER, organic does not mean corn-free! Organic labels tend to have more disclosure than regular foods, but when in doubt (such as citric acid), call the 800 number, if provided, or just skip that product. Corn can be organic too.
*Please note that I do not list prepared foods unless it is something I regularly eat and do not react to. My list of safe foods will be different from someone else's due to the varying levels of sensitivity and reactions we all experience.
